 Core Initiatives

Protecting Our Children at the Elementary Level

Every child deserves a safe school environment - from their very first day.

Currently, Wilson County does not have School Resource Officers assigned to elementary schools. Chris Boykin believes safety and prevention should begin early, not after problems arise.

By expanding School Resource Officer coverage and increasing deputy support, Chris will work to ensure schools are places of trust, protection, and partnership - not fear. A visible, positive presence helps build relationships with students, educators, and families while strengthening overall school safety.

Keeping our children safe is not a political issue - it’s a community responsibility.

Bringing Resources Back to Wilson County

Smart partnerships mean more resources, more funding, and more accountability.

Wilson County should benefit when its deputies help combat drug trafficking and serious crime. As Sheriff, Chris Boykin will actively partner with state and federal task forces to ensure Wilson County receives the resources and funding tied to those efforts.

Right now, those partnerships - and the compensation that comes with them - are limited. Chris will change that by strengthening coordination, bringing resources back into the county, and ensuring local law enforcement has the support it needs to do its job effectively. These partnerships bring additional personnel, investigative resources, and funding that can be reinvested directly into public safety without additional taxation for residents.

Participation in these task forces will also deter drug dealers from setting up operations in our county. Dealers know which counties actively work with state and federal partners and which do not. Our participation will deter them from using Wilson County as a conduit for illegal activity.

This is about working smarter, protecting our community, and making sure Wilson County isn’t left behind.

Officer Retention

We train our deputies here. We invest in them here. We want them to stay here.

Wilson County trains dedicated, professional deputies right here at home. Chris Boykin believes that when we invest in their quality of life - competitive pay, proper resources, promoting from within, and stronger support - we improve retention and keep experienced officers serving the community they know best. Fewer departures mean stronger relationships, better training continuity, and safer neighborhoods for everyone.

Chris’s approach is simple: if we train them here, we should value them here - and give them every reason to stay.

Animal Control Reform

Animal Control exists to serve the people of Wilson County and to protect animals with fairness, professionalism, and compassion. Just as importantly, residents must be able to trust that the system works for them, respects their good intentions, and uses taxpayer dollars responsibly. Transparency is essential to that trust.

If Chris is elected Sheriff, Animal Control will be led with a renewed focus on accountability, clear communication, and community partnership. We can - and must - do better.

That means working alongside local rescue organizations, veterinarians, and advocacy groups whose networks and experience extend far beyond what any single office can do alone. These partnerships help animals find homes faster, reduce overcrowding, and ensure care decisions are made with both common sense and compassion.

It also means taking a hard look at how Animal Control operates day to day. Policies, training, and oversight must support both public safety and public trust. Chris is committed to establishing an advisory partnership with residents and animal welfare advocates to help guide improvements and rebuild confidence in how Animal Control serves this community.

The people of Wilson County have already proven that your voices matter. It was community advocacy that led to the construction of a new shelter. That was progress - but it cannot be the end of the conversation.

There is still work to do.

As Sheriff, Chris will work to ensure Animal Control operates with transparency, fairness, and respect - for residents, for animals, and for the people tasked with doing this difficult work. Together, we can restore trust and make meaningful, lasting improvements.

Increasing Visibility In the County

If elected Sheriff, Chris is committed to increased visibility through proactive patrols in county communities such as Black Creek, Elm City, Lucama, Stantonsburg, Saratoga, Sims, and others.

Presence goes a long way in deterring crime, and every resident of Wilson County deserves to feel safe. In addition, I want deputies actively involved in local events, church gatherings, and sporting events.

Deputies should know the people they serve, and I will lead by example in building those relationships.

Breaking The Cycle Of Addiction

Drug activity drives many of the crimes that we see in our county, including theft, break-ins, and robberies. Breaking that cycle is essential to improving public safety in both the short and long term.

Alongside enforcement, I want to expand partnerships with treatment providers and job placement programs for appropriate candidates. Accountability must be paired with opportunities for rehabilitation.

When we help individuals break the cycle of addiction through treatment, employment, and structure, crime rates decline and families are strengthened.

That work begins with leadership willing to prioritize both public safety and long-term solutions.

Immigration Concerns

If elected Sheriff, my administration will be transparent about its role. The role of the Wilson County Sheriff's Office is to ensure the safety and welfare of ALL Wilson County residents through the enforcement of state and local criminal laws, and other civil services. The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office is not immigration enforcement and does not have the independent legal authority to function as an arm of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

To date, there is no large-scale immigration issue in Wilson County that warrants a federal enforcement presence at the local level. I’m running because the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office has one primary responsibility: to serve and protect the people who live here - every resident. Law enforcement operates as a partner in public safety, not as an occupying force. It’s not our job or our mission to seek out and make inquiries about status. Our job is to protect and serve the Wilson County community and I am the experienced candidate with a plan to make Wilson safer for all residents.

Providing a safer Wilson County for ALL residents is why I am running for Sheriff and why I am asking for your vote. I have 27 plus years of leadership experience in law enforcement and know how to accomplish this for you and the next generation. Lasting public safety comes from trust, partnership, and professionalism. That is the direction from which I will lead.
